All You Need to Know About Semaglutide
-
A Personalized Approach to Medical Weight Management
Semaglutide is a prescription medication that works like a natural hormone called GLP-1. This hormone helps regulate appetite, food intake, digestion, and blood sugar. Semaglutide may help reduce hunger, increase fullness after meals, decrease food cravings, and support long-term weight management when combined with balanced nutrition and regular physical activity.
-
Semaglutide may support weight management by:
Reducing appetite and calorie intake
Helping you feel full longer
Decreasing food cravings
Supporting portion control
Slowing digestion
Helping regulate blood sugar
Individual results vary, and weight loss is not guaranteed.
-
Semaglutide may be considered for qualifying adults with obesity or adults who are overweight and have certain weight-related health concerns. Eligibility is based on your current weight, medical history, medications, previous weight-loss efforts, and overall health.
A medical evaluation is required before treatment can be prescribed.
-
Semaglutide may be available in different forms depending on the prescribed product and treatment plan. Options may include:
Once-weekly injections
Oral tablets
Compounded oral dissolving or sublingual formulations, when clinically appropriate and legally available
Your provider will determine the appropriate formulation, dosage, and treatment schedule based on your individual needs.
-
Common side effects may include:
Nausea
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Constipation
Stomach discomfort
Indigestion
Fatigue
Reduced appetite
Side effects may be more noticeable when treatment begins or after a dosage increase and may improve as your body adjusts.
-
Semaglutide may not be appropriate for everyone. It should not be used by patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2. Tell your provider if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, planning pregnancy, or have a history of pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, kidney concerns, severe digestive conditions, diabetic eye disease, or low blood sugar.
Semaglutide should not be combined with another semaglutide-containing medication or another GLP-1 medication unless specifically directed by a qualified healthcare provider.

Vitamin B12
Cyanocobalamin and methylcobalamin are forms of vitamin B12. B12 supports red-blood-cell production, nerve function, and normal energy metabolism. It may benefit patients with a documented deficiency, but it should not be advertised as a guaranteed energy booster or weight-loss enhancer.
Cyanocobalamin: a commonly used synthetic form of B12
Methylcobalamin: an active form of B12 that the body can use directly
Limited real-world research has evaluated compounded semaglutide with cyanocobalamin, but this does not establish that adding B12 improves semaglutide’s effectiveness.
Vitamin B3
Vitamin B3, often supplied as niacinamide, helps the body convert food into energy and supports normal skin and nervous-system function. It may be included for nutritional support, but there is no strong clinical evidence that adding B3 increases semaglutide-related weight loss or reliably prevents side effects.
Glycine
Glycine is an amino acid involved in protein production, collagen formation, and nervous-system signaling. Pharmacies may include it as a formulation component or for general metabolic support. Evidence that injectable glycine improves weight loss, muscle preservation, or semaglutide tolerability is limited.
L-Carnitine
L-carnitine helps transport fatty acids into cells so they can be used for energy. It has recognized medical uses for certain carnitine deficiencies. However, adding it to semaglutide has not been shown to substantially increase weight loss or prevent fatigue in people without a deficiency.
Important Patient Notice- Compounded semaglutide may be combined with ingredients such as vitamin B12, vitamin B3, glycine, or L-carnitine. These ingredients support normal functions such as energy metabolism, nerve health, protein production, and fatty-acid transport. The appropriate formulation is selected based on your individual needs and pharmacy availability. Added ingredients have not been proven to increase semaglutide-related weight loss, and compounded medications are not FDA-approved.
